At a glance..

While the writer cannot give each of his readers a taste of this coveted bear meat in material form, or a whiff of the beaver medicine, direct from the wooden flask made by the late Bow-arrow's own hands, still the author hopes that the magical qualities of this great medicine will enter into and form a part of the subject matter of this book, and through that medium inoculate the souls and bodies of his readers, purify them and rejuvenate them with a love of the WORLD AS GOD MADE IT.

The details..

In 'The Book of Camp-Lore and Woodcraft', Dan Beard shares his passion for spending time in nature with young people. He believes that boyhood is an invaluable asset to society because it contains a divine spark that can lead to great accomplishments later in life. The author's dream was for boys to have access to municipal playgrounds, zoological gardens, botanical gardens and organizations giving them opportunities to camp outdoors.

Beard explains how he initiated a personal crusade for breathing spaces for boys after being shocked by the lack thereof during his visit fifty years ago in New York City. His propaganda work won him support from editorial staff at St Nicholas, Youth's Companion and Harpers as well as other distinguished sportsmen like President Roosevelt.

He writes about iteration and reiteration through shouting outdoors, talking outdoors, picturing outdoors singing outdoors but above all writing about the outside world constantly hammering on one subject while keeping one purpose always in view: winning interest from people towards big outdoor spaces where God intended young people should live work play.

With this book containing 377 illustrations by its author who founded the first Boy Scouts Society; readers will be able learn everything they need know about camping out including wood-crafting skills such as building fires without matches or lighters.
